A man in Norway awoke to find a large container ship had ploughed into his front garden narrowly missing his home. The 135-metre NCL Salten ran aground at 5am on Thursday after enteringTrondheim fjordin central Norway. The ship, which was reportedly travelling at 16 knots (about 30km/h), headed straight for Johan Helberg's home in Byneset, near Trondheim, missing his house by mere metres. It is not yet clear what caused the crash. Mr Helberg slept through the incident and was only alerted to the unexpected visitor when a panicked neighbour repeatedly rang his doorbell. "The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't like to open," Mr Helberg told the television channel TV2. Jostein Jorgensen, his neighbour, said he was roused by the sound of a ship heading at full speed toward land and immediately ran to Mr Helberg's house. "I was sure that he was already outside, but no, there was no sign of life. I rang the doorbell many times and nothing... And it was only when I called him on the phone that I managed to contact him," Mr Jorgensen told TV2. Mr Helberg said: "It's a very bulky new neighbour but it will soon go away." None of the 16 crew members were injured in the incident, and Norwegian police are now investigating. The ship remained in Mr Helberg's garden on Thursday morning after the first attempt to remove it was unsuccessful. A second attempt will take place on Thursday evening during high tide.
